Wisma Putra To Promote Awareness On Asean
PUTRAJAYA – Wisma Putra will work closely with all diplomatic missions, ministries and agencies, civil society, government and non-governmental organisations, the private sector, universities and schools to promote awareness on Asean.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said Malaysia would take the chairmanship of Asean in 2015, which would coincide with the establishment of the Asean Community.
“We hope that with your support, Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean will be a success,” he said at the 45th Asean Day flag-hoisting ceremony at Wisma Putra, here, today. His speech was read out by his deputy, Kohilan A. Pillay.
Anifah said Asean leaders had embarked on an ambitious agenda of establishing an Asean Community by 2015, to create a region that is well integrated comprising three pillars, namely political-security cooperation, economic cooperation and socio-cultural cooperation.
“It is also an ambition of seeing Southeast Asian nations bonded together in partnership of dynamic development and in a community of caring societies, committed to upholding cultural diversity and social harmony,” he said. – BERNAMA
