Thai Woman Detained With Syabu
ALOR STAR – The Customs Department detained a woman from Thailand with 3.8kg of syabu worth about RM722,000 last Friday.
The 33-year-old woman was arrested at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex, about 50km from here, at 2.30pm.
State Customs Department director Datuk Abdul Aziz Latif said the suspect had earlier entered the country on a Kuala Lumpur-bound bus from Hat Yai, Thailand.
“The woman was detained after a scanning machine at the complex detected the contraband inside her luggage.
“Our officers found four packets of crystal-like substance, believed to be syabu inside a special compartment on the bottom of the suspect’s luggage,” he told reporters here today.
He said preliminary investigation showed the woman is a mother of two children and that it was her first trip to Malaysia according to her passport.
Abdul Razak said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence if convicted. – New Straits Times Online
