Raya Greeting Cards Rendered Obsolete
KUALA TERENGGANU – With the advent of information technology, Aidilfitri greeting cards seem to be no longer relevant with book shop and stall operators complaining of no sale.
People are no longer buying greeting cards to send to relatives and friends to wish them “Selamat Hari Raya”. Instead, these Aidilfitri wishes, as well asfor other occasions, are sent through the short messaging service (SMS), FaceBook (FB), Twitter, etc.
A survey at several book shops and stalls selling the Aidilfitri greeting cards found no one going to the premises to buy the cards.
“People no longer want to buy the Aidilfitri greeting cards because they can send their wishes through the SMS, FB, etc.
“The time when the shop is crowded with people choosing for the cards is gone,” said Shukri Abdullah, 26, who has been a shop assistant at Kedai Buku Fauzi Ngah at Pasar Kedai Payang here for five years.
A shop assistant at Kedai Buku Pustaka Seri Intan, Azizah Jusoh, 31, said very few of her customers came to the shop to look for Aidilfitri greeting cards.
Yusof Yahya, 31, who operates a booth selling Aidilfitri greeting cards near the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) bus stop, said he had sold the cards to only a few people. – BERNAMA
