Boy Drowns In An Irrigation Canal

BESUT – A two-year-old boy, believed to have slipped out of his house alone, was found drowned in an irrigation canal of a padi field near his family home at Kampung Padang Luas Dalam here yesterday.

Besut District Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Zakaria said Ahmad A’Fi Naqib Supian was believed to have been swept by the strong current after falling into the 1.5 metre deep canal.

“Family members realised the boy missing from the house at about 2pm and went to search for him. They found his body in the canal about two hours later,” he told reporters here Thursday.

He said the body was then sent to Besut District Hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the child’s father, Supian Sulaiman, 30, when met at the hospital mortuary, said his wife and mother were resting at home and did not realise Ahmad A’Fi Naqib had slipped out of the house. – BERNAMA
