Seda Mulls Legal Action Against Pua

PUTRAJAYA: Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) is mulling over legal action against DAP parliamentarian Tony Pua over the latter’s claims that quotas for solar energy supply were tendered to unqualified companies.

Declining to respond to the DAP national publicity secretary’s questions on the solar energy issue, Seda chairman Fong Chan Onn, however, asserted it was a serious allegation against him.

He said he had been informed by the legal adviser of the energy, green technology and water ministry that it would study Pua’s statement before deciding on the next course of action.

“This is to determine whether Seda and the ministry could seek legal recourse [against Pua],” he told a press conference here today.

Fong, who declined to provide details on the selection process for the companies and the qualification required, said “the lawyers are looking into it”.

Recently, Pua had alleged that the daughter of recently retired chief secretary to the government, Mohd Sidek Hassan, had a large share in the newly-introduced renewable alternative energy scheme.

He claimed Suzi Suliana controlled 32.4% or 45.9 megawatt out of the quota set for solar energy through feed in tariff (FiT), far above the limit of 1MW to 5MW for companies.

Fong had earlier responded that the selection of the applicants was transparent, as it was done via online system.

Seda is a statutory body formed under the Sustainable Energy Development Authority Act 2011.

Its purpose is to administer and manage the implementation of the FiT mechanism. -Bernama
