Pakatan’s Seat Distribution Is 95% Completed

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas deputy president Mohamad Sabu said Pakatan Rakyat’s seat distribution for the 13th General Election is 95 per cent complete.

Mohamad or commonly known as Mat Sabu told The Mole: “As it is now we have finalised about 95 per cent of Pakatan’s seat distribution.”

“It will generally follow the status quo but of course there are seats which are still being negotiated, to see which party is best to represent Pakatan,” he added.

Mat Sabu denied that Pas is taking great risk for willing to contest in seats which Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP are shying away from.

He was commenting on a blog post by Dr MiM that stated, unlike its Pakatan partners that are prioritising winnable seats to contest, Pas on the other hand is using a slf-destructive strategy that would reduce the number of parliamentary seats they won previously.

The blog post also published a news report quoting Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who said that Pas is the strongest party within Pakatan’s coalition and one of the party’s strength is its election machinery which will help Pas to contest in those seats.

“When we said we want to contest in those seats, it means we are not afraid to face BN (Barisan Nasional) and we are not going to let them have an easy win,” Mat Sabu explained.

“We are still going to contest in seats which we believe we might win. Still, our experience has shown that Pas can manage to win in the Shah Alam and Kota Raja (seats).”

Asked about the possibility of losing the Muslim-Malay influence in parliament if Pas loses more as compared to PKR and DAP, Mat Sabu said: “It’s Umno that causes the lost of Malay influence and Malay power for making the community drift apart.”

“Pas will be the party Malay voters choose over BN as it unites all.”

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said every seat is a potential seat for Pas.

“We have always contested in seats which are deemed not quite safe but our motive is to create a base in the area.”

Khalid said such strategy has worked as evidenced with growing support from East Malaysia and other BN stronghold seats.

He also said Pakatan partners will decide among themselves which party will contest the 12 to 15 seats which Barisan won uncontested in the previous election.

“If there is a concern on losing Malay-Muslim influence in politics, we wish to appeal to Malay voters to vote for Pas. I am confident even Malays now are not immune to political changes,” Khalid said.
