KL Festival Opens With Pomp And Splendour

KUALA LUMPUR – The month-long Kuala Lumpur Festival 2012, which began Saturday, will showcase a myriad of arts and cultural performances from various races.

Information, Communications and Culture Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf said corporate sponsorship for the seventh edition of the festival themed “Di Sini Semaraknya Seni!” (It’s Here Where Arts Flourish) had registered an increase.

This included 10 Chevrolet Captiva SUVs sponsored by Naza Group displaying the KL Festival logos to promote the event, he told reporters after launching KL Festival 2012 at Istana Budaya here Saturday night.

He said the festival was significant to the development of the arts and creative industry as it would promotes cultural activities among city dwellers as well as enliven recreational areas in the capital with various cultural activities.

The opening ceremony was graced by traditional and modern dances, and a dikir barat performance from cultural troupes and the National Culture and Arts Department.

Artists Jaimmy Palikat, Ziana Zain, Noraniza Idris, Sabri Yunus, Ito from the Blues Gang and Poe dazzled the audience with their songs. – BERNAMA
