Kelantan Claim Top Spot After Beating Selangor 1-0
KOTA BAHARU – Kelantan finally claimed the top spot over their rivals Singapore after beating Selangor 1-0 in a Super League encounter at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here Friday night.
Bouyed by partisant supporters, Kelantan broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when import player Mohamad Ghaddar nodded in a corner kick taken by Norfarhan Muhammad.
Three minutes later, Norfarhan created another goal-scoring opportunity for Kelantan from another corner kick, but Daudsu Jamaluddin’s shot hit the bar.
Selangor were in disarray until the breather but hardly came back into the game in the second half due to stout defence by Kelantan.
Angered over referee Mohd Jefferi Zolkifli’s indecisiveness, some spectators reacted by throwing mineral water bottles into the field.
Kelantan came close to scoring again through Indra Putra Mahyuddin in the 62nd minute when his stinging shot was parried by the goalkeeper while Selangor made a feeble attempt in the 79th minute when a free kick taken by captain Safiq Rahim was cleared by a defender. – BERNAMA
