Four Factory Workers Hurt In Bus Crash

GEORGE TOWN – Four factory workers were hurt when their bus was involved in a crash with another factory bus at Tun Dr Lim Choon Eu Highway here this morning.

In the accident at 6.15am, the factory bus carrying 40 workers from Bayan Lepas industrial area was rammed from, behind by another facotry bus.

Penang traffic police chief DSP Abdul Rahim Md Din said the accident involving two factory buses and two cars occurred near the traffic lights at phase four of Bayan Lepas industrial area.

The factory bus carrying 40 workers was waiting for the traffic lights to change but was suddenly rammed from behind by another factory bus.

“The impact of the crash sent two cars in the queue crashing while two seats were ejected from the factory bus,” he said here today.

One of the factory workers suffered a fractured leg while three others hurt were admitted for treatment at Penang Hospital.

Murni Hayati Zainal Abidin, 27, said she was tying up her hair getting ready for work when the bus stopped while waiting for the traffic lights to change.

“Suddenly, I felt a crash form behind the bus and heard friends screaming for help,” the factory worker said when met at Penang Hospital here.

As a result, her friend Noraini Razali, 40, who was sitting on the right side of the bus suffered a fractured leg.

Murni said that she was lucky to escape the crash unhurt.

The crash caused over 10km traffic congestion from Penang Bridge to Bayan Lepas industrial area. – BERNAMA
