KUALA LUMPUR – A housewife believed to be depressed died of breathing difficulties after a fire gutted her house at Rampai Court phase two, Setapak here today.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Azizan Ismail said the 43-year-old woman was alone in the house while her husband was at work when the incident occurred at about 5.30pm.

He said firemen found the woman’s body lying face down with her left hand scalded.

The department, which was alerted about the fire at 6pm, despatched 30 firemen with three engines from the Wangsa Maju, Jalan Jelatek and Setapak stations, he said.

“They arrived shortly after and brought the blaze under control in 20 minutes,” he said, adding that the fire was believed to have started from two rooms in the apartment unit.

According to neighbours, shortly before the fire the childless woman was said to have brandished a dagger as she set for her neighbour’s apartment unit and threatened to kill a baby who cried inside the house. – BERNAMA
